July 25th President Obama hosted an Iftar dinner at the White House. There were no less than attendees at the event. Ten days earlier there was an auspicious Iftar gathering that received less publicity. Michael Oren, Israel’s Ambassador to Washington DC hosted a blended dinner acknowledging both Iftar and the Jewish holiday of Tisha B’av, the Ninth day of the month of Av, a mourning day in Jewish history commemorated with fasting, as do Muslims fast for their day. One fast is celebratory; the other fast is solemn in conduct. Michale Oren illustrated by his guest list mixed with Jews and Moslems, there is a place for differences-inter-faith to come together in solidarity forming new traditions- in the good grace of a true diplomate and statesman. Oren’s guests were business leaders, media, diplomats, philanthropists, government officials, religious leaders. Obama’s anticipated guests are listed below….

Expected Attendees at the White House Iftar Dinner 

This evening, the President will continue a White House tradition of hosting an Iftar celebrating Ramadan in the State Dining Room.  This is the fifth Iftar hosted by the President.  The Iftar is the meal that breaks the day of fasting, when Muslim families and communities eat together after sunset.
