REP. MIKE THOMPSON Announces Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Hearing
Washington, DC – Rep. Mike Thompson, Chair of the Congressional Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, today announced that the task force will hold a hearing at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6th titled “The Need for Background Checks: Preventing Criminals and the Dangerously Mentally Ill from Getting Guns.” The hearing will focus on the need for legislation requiring background checks to keep firearms away from criminals and the dangerously mentally ill. A background check requirement that respects reasonable exceptions for cases such as gifts between family members and temporary loans for sporting purposes was one of the 15 principles outlined by the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.
Chairman Thompson, vice-chairs and members of the task force will hear from a comprehensive group of panelists with a wide range of expertises
